Chalk and Cork is a beautiful two storey wine bar and restaurant with a lovely courtyard on Kloof Street, Cape Town. Our upstairs loft seats around 30 covers so is a great space to enjoy lunch, dinner or a private party!

Meet the Team!

Marc and Amy Botes – Owners
They have always loved food and wine and have been lucky enough to turn their passion into a career, spending the last 10 years working in the restaurant industry.

Marc, originally from Cape Town began his love of wine whilst working at Buitenverwachting Restaurant in Constantia. After moving to London to taste and learn more about old world wines, he joined Gordon Ramsay as Head Sommelier overseeing two of his restaurants. After six crazy years, he moved to General Manager for the opening of Pierre Koffmann’s new restaurant. Working with a Chef who believes in ‘head to tail’ cooking he was fascinated by the food and wine of the Basque region. He finished off his London stint with an importing company to learn the other side of the wine industry.

Amy started off her career at home in Cornwall, UK where she managed a small hotel by the sea before moving to London to work as a supervisor with Gordon Ramsay, where she met Marc. Two years later she moved into management at a large restaurant on the Kings Road. She went on to do a month stage at Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant which was inspiring to see the behind the scenes of such an award-winning restaurant. After visiting San Sebastian she realised Tapas was where she wanted to be, so she joined the Salt Yard Group as General Manager – her knowledge and curiosity for tapas was now unlocked!

After moving back to Cape Town they took their first step into the food scene at Taste of Cape town selling their Basque Chorizo rolls and the food adventure in CT began!
